The class provides an introduction to rally racing and focuses on understanding and using a roadbook, which is a crucial tool for navigation in rally and cross-country motorsports. You will learn:
What a Roadbook Is: A paper (or digital) book containing symbols, icons, and text that guides drivers/riders through the correct route during a rally.
Roadbook Content: It includes distances, directions, angles, potential dangers, waypoints, and other course-related information.
Equipment: Introduction to essential tools like the adjustable course indicator, speed indicator, odometer, and button panels for navigating the roadbook.
Roadbook Layout: Understanding the structure of a roadbook, including headers, diagram boxes, and description boxes, which provide graphical and textual information about the route.
Lexicons and Symbols: Learning the meaning of various symbols and abbreviations used in roadbooks, such as danger indications, speed zones, compass headings, and waypoints.
Waypoints (WPs): Different types of waypoints (e.g., Depart/Arrival, Security, Mask, Navigation) and their roles in ensuring competitors stay on the correct route.
Safety and Danger Indications: Recognizing symbols that indicate potential hazards, such as rocks, holes, or difficult terrain.
